Tonight, Shantanu Phukan and I saw a PEREGRINE FALCON, presumably headed
toward a roost at twilight, near Bascom and Hamilton in Campbell, at about
5:25. Earlier, the San Jose State COOPER'S HAWK put in an appearance on
campus around 4:20.
As Shantanu says, the Peregrines are proof that we are not in the 1960s any
longer! Saturday, in San Mateo county, I saw one on I-280 near Woodside
Road, and one fly-over at Bayfront Park in Menlo Park. Later that day I saw
another out in Tulare County. Sunday the San Jose State Peregrines were on
the City Hall; Monday I saw one of these birds on the campus. So I've seen
at least six different Peregrines in six days - and I'm not even looking for
them in particular. I hope this population continues to expand and soldify
its return.
