While birding at the EEC in Alviso this afternoon I observed a House Wren (HOWR) foraging on the ground beneath some bushes behind the "Butterflies and Plants" sign. At first I thought it was a Bewick's Wren (BEWR) when I first heard the buzzing. Then I saw it on the ground for several minutes. It was a very plain bird, much smaller than a BEWR, no supercilium as in the BEWR, a longer tail than a Winter Wren (WIWR) which it held mostly horizontally, rather than vertically as a WIWR or BEWR, a longer bill than the WIWR, and faint markings on the tail and wings.
Aren't they usually gone by now? Wouldn't it be nice if it stayed around for the CBC?
