If the grass is tall, the habitat may have become unsuitable for the  
owls. It may be a conundrum: mowing the grass at this time might be a  
problem for the birds if some are there. An earlier mowing might have  
been helpful, but with all of the rain you've been getting, this  
might have been hard to predict.
