All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I had a LONG-EARED OWL in Ed Levin County
Park (picnic area below Sandy Wool Lake). A BARN OWL was in the trees
in the parking lot for this area. A Salasphorous Hummingbird seen along
the un-named road east of the Golf Course was either an Orange-rumped male
Allen's Hummingbird or a Green-backed male Rufous Hummingbird (the rufous
appearing more extensive on the back and sides of the back than in either
of the illustrations in Sibley. At Guadalupe Oak Grove Park we had our
first-of-the-year WARBLING VIREO but no Chipping Sparrows. Janna
Pauser also came by but still no joy :-( Birding was quite
active in the area near the playground and well worth the stop (can't say that
about a lot of the places lately).
Take care,
Bob Reiling
