[SBB] NAWA and HEWA at Smith Creek

All,

This morning 4/27/06, Richard Jeffers and I spent a couple hours at the
Smith Creek Fire Station looking for migrants. It was windy and a bit
cool, but there was some variety up there, although not in large
numbers. Most interesting were 3 male HERMIT WARBLERS and a NASHVILLE
WARBLER on the slope behind the fire station. Other warblers were also
represented, with several ORANGE-CROWNED, 8 YELLOW-RUMPED, 2
BLACK-THROATED GRAY, 5+ TOWNSEND'S, and 7 WILSON'S. There were also
good numbers of WESTERN TANAGERS (10), LAZULI BUNTINGS (5), CASSIN'S
VIREOS (4), and WARBLING VIREOS (2). No empidonax flycatchers of any
kind though. Winter birds continue to linger, with 25+ GOLDEN-CROWNED
SPARROWS, 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, and 4+
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS.

A quick check of Grant Lake on the way back to work turned up 1 WESTERN
GREBE, 1 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON, a pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS, and 7
BUFFLEHEAD.
