[SBB] Merlin near Sunnyvale Baylands

Sorry for the late posting.
Yesterday at lunchtime, a MERLIN was perched on the top of a tower and
then flew across Caribbean into the Twin Creeks ball fields. It had a
very narrow tail compared to the bird in my National Geographic guide.
The tail was rounded and extended only just past the wings. It had a
yellow throat (but it was a bit big to be a yellowthroat!), especially
since it was back lit. I looked at the picture of the Baylands Merlin
that Rosalie Strait sent me last year and it was consistent with that.
This was my first sighting of my very own Merlin (not pointed out to
me).
There were at least 3 male RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and 9 female
mergansers on A4, and two BURROWING OWLS in a hole inside the treatment
plant, seen from the path between A4 and the SWPCP parking.
I got a workout on my bike trying to catch a COOPER'S HAWKs that flew
from near the SWPCP to the hill near A4, where it was joined by
another. I had good views of their long rounded tails. I don't often
get to see them soaring.
