I walked along the Alamitos Creek trail this morning while Lee checked
the nest boxes. Western Bluebird, White breasted Nuthatch and C.B.
Chickadee are nesting, Oak Titmouse have hatchlings.
Four male Bullocks Orioles, a pair of House Wrens, two Cal. Thrasher, a
male Wilson's Warbler and heard only Wrentits were my best birds. Near
the bathrooms at Lake Almaden a Western Kingbird was perched atop
the same Sycamore tree where they've nested previous years. Dozens of
Cliff Swallows were flying over the lake and seen in their nests across
Winfield. Further south five White throated Swifts, two Tree and a dozen
each Violet Green and No. Rough winged Swallows were seen. A Steller's
Jay was an unusual sighting along the creek trail.
So far Western Bluebirds are building nests in seven of our nest boxes at
various locations in Almaden Valley.
