Hi All,
I've been getting lots of White-crowned Sparrows to my backyard
feeder. Loading up for the long trek, I suppose. But this isn't the
reason I'm mailing. I have a large (larger than the Mourning Doves with
which it shares the seed) and very shy pigeon visiting the feeder. When
it allows looks, it appears a rather light gray with a white band at
the nape such as the dark one on a collared dove. It also has a white
terminal band on the tail and a yellow bill. I've been looking in my
foreign dream, er, bird books for a match. Found zip. I live in the
Willow Glen area of San Jose and the closest thing it resembles, except
the overall lightness, is a Band-tailed Pigeon. I don't pay much
attention to exotics except when I'm in their homeland, so I'm stumped.
