[SBB] Purple Finch

I had three female PURPLE FINCH at my backyard platform feeder throughout the morning. A few BAND TAILED PIGEONS showed up and monopolized the feeder for a while. A wave of the hand from the kitchen window is all that's needed to chase them off when they've had enough sunflower chips. I had 27 BTPI feeding a few days ago and things got a little out of hand. One barely made it over the patio cover and another flew into the screen door but was not hurt.

I got tired of waiting for the storm to arrive and walked in Quicksilver Park at 11 am. I found an ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER singing in the same tree where I first saw it two weeks ago. A nearby Ruby-crowned Kinglet was singing repeatedly and showing its red crown. In the open area near the chimneys I watched six White throated Swifts. Walking through the wooden gate on the way out I heard Bushtits, and found one at a completed nest overhead. Every person who enters or exits the park will pass under this nest which is not hidden. Makes me wonder why this site was chosen.

Yesterday, I again saw a MERLIN perched in a Sycamore tree on Almaden Ex. in front of the SCV Water district. It's the same scruffy looking bird that I've seen at various nearby locations over the winter, even the end of my block.
