I've spoken with Tamara Clark-Shear at Santa Clara County Parks and she
clarified the presence of the "Closed Area" signs at the Villa Marie
area in Stevens Creek County Park in the following email.  If there are
any further questions about the status of the old orchard area at Villa
Marie, please feel free to communicate with either Tamara or myself
privately.

In order to address a law enforcement concern at the Villa Maria group
picnic area at Stevens Creek County Park, Park Rangers have posted all
non-designated trails as "Closed Areas". One of these non-designated
trails
is a very popular loop around a portion of the old orchard south of the
picnic site. After the long enforcement action has concluded, the
"orchard
loop" trail will be designated an official trail and reopened to the
public
once it's been cleaned up. All of the other closures and signs will
remain
in place.

On the issue of trails leading into private property, all of these areas
are
on park property. One of these trails (an old road) does lead to private
property but it is gated at the property line.

I've not been over to the park lately, so this thread is a bit difficult

for me to follow.  The Parks and Recreation Department web site has a
map 
of the park:

and it is clear that there are private holdings above the Villa Maria 
Picnic area, but the old orchard is shown to be completely on park 
land.  As for there being a "deer trail" the map shows two trails going 
into the private holdings.  These are not deer trails.  My recollection
of 
at least one of them is that it is used by the private owners to obtain 
easy access to the park and there is a sign on the their property 
line.  Maybe Bob Power could talk to Tamara again.  I don't want to be 
offensive, but she needs to get in her park car and drive up there and
take 
a look around.  Her description and those that everyone else are giving 
simply do not agree with the park map.  I think we need some clarity,
but 
we don't have it yet.  What is probably most needed are signs on the 
private property owner's land that they are not welcome in our park
unless 
they drive in on the road and pay the **** fee!
