Hi all:
I was trying to enjoy a perfectly solemn walk along
the Steven's Creek this morning at 10. I was on the
east side of McClellan Ranch when I looked to the west
and saw a swirl of gulls on the approx. west edge of
the Preserve. The gulls morphed into 6 White-tailed
Kites. Seems too early for Kite movement, so
hopefully, this is our local pair that nested
somewhere east of us and they were taking the kids for
a stroll. I sprinted to the parking lot in hopes of
getting positive i.d.'s for 2 adults and 4 juveniles,
but the Kites were long gone.
On Friday, Cooper's Hawk flew into the densely
vegetated creek area adjacent to the old orchard area
of the preserve. I'll be watching for a possible nest.
Good Birding
