We have an immature (fledged @ 2 weeks ago) Red Shouldered in the back
valley where we live in Pacifica.
The fledging was noticeable because the young bird's loud calls sounded
different from the parents', which have been vociferous since they moved in
(a year ago now?). I imagine parents' calls are due in part to onslaught of
ravens, numerous here.
The young 'complains' almost daily it seems, often from the same perch high
up on a pine tree. I imagine, but can not tell, if it is because it is not
being fed by the parents, who we do see hunting local fields. Hopefully it
is a successful hunter!
