Howdy all...
Couldn't stand being in another minute so I headed out to the Campbell
ponds...entered and parked at the Dell Avenue entrance. The first thing noticed
was that the left of the two island's had a tree falling into the pond. This is
of concern as it was being watched for a Great Egret Rookery. The islands
are getting smaller and smaller...... There are a lot of trees down along
Los Gatos Creek!
I did see 10 Great Egrets between the Campbell and Oka Ponds. The
best bird at the Campbell Ponds was a beautiful male COMMON GOLDENEYE...Lots of
MALLARDS, LESSER SCAUP, GADWALLS, COOTS, PIED-BILLED GREBES, DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS AND GULLS (didn't dare take my scope out)....
I walked down to check on Snipe Island....Just Mallards and Gadwalls, not
Snipe....
Walked over the bridge into Okaponds... Lots of Lesser Scaup (male and
female)...Large Pond had BUFFLEHEAD, RUDDY DUCKS, HOODED MERGANSERS (still my
favorite), had a SWALLOW over the ponds and all I know is that is wasn't a
Barn! Very white on the bottom.... WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, SONG
SPARROW and SNOWY EGRETS on the levy.
Took a short ride over to Vasona....lots of downed trees....Best
bird:
CACKLING GOOSE mixed in with a hundred or so CANADA GEESE...no other birds
to speak of....
Adding to my backyard list: CA Thrasher, a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks,
Spotted Towee and a Scrub Jay..
Wishing you all good birding (and dry weather to enjoy it)....
My best regards,
Linda Sullivan
