Sorry for the late posting as I've just re-subscribed to the list.
Last Saturday morning, Feb. 4, I saw a male Hooded Warbler taking a bath
in a backyard fountain. This was in West San Jose on the Santa
Clara/Cupertino borders near 280 and Lawrence Expy. I initially thought it
was a very loud California Towhee, as he was quite vocal. It reminded me
of a previous sighting with Les Chibana's class a few years ago near Crespi
pond/golf course in Monterey. That one too was very Towhee-like in
voice. Saturday's bird provided a nice long view, with much preening and
flicking of the tail feathers. He flashed quite a bit of white in the
outer tail.
