It was very cold, and we hiked through frozen grass, but we had ten
hardy souls.
Cherie Long, Brooke Miller,
Kay Partelow, John Esterl (from New Mexico), Sonny Mencher, Annemarie
Rosengreen, Mary Ann Allan, Patty McGann, Carol
Dienger.
We split up and did three different trails: Baronda Lake and Chemise
Trail, Wildhorse Canyon and Orchard Glen, Los Trancos to Steep Hollow
Trails, and afterwards we all went to Vista Hill for about an hour.
What a great view. No Wild Turkeys this year,
however.
It was so cold that most of
the birds kept hidden, but we did see 472 birds. The biggest numbers
(>=10) were Ruddy Ducks and Coots on the lake, Scrub Jays,
Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Robins, Meadowlarks, Wrentits, Varied Thrush,
and Golden-crowned Sparrows in the valley and trails, and Robins
and Cedar Waxwings on the hill. You can download a full listing
