[SBB] county birding

I tooled around the county today, 11 Dec 06, starting at Lake Cunningham. Twenty plus WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS foraging over the lake were joined by 2, possibly 3, VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS. There were 4 HOODED MERGANSERS (2 males, 2 females) in the channel that borders the park, just outside the entrance to Raging Waters.

At the Coyote Creek Golf Club I had the ROSS'S GOOSE, the immature GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, and the 10 CACKLING GEESE.

I headed up to Shoreline Lake, where I found 2 male and 1 female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, 1 HORNED GREBE, 7 BROWN PELICANS, and 30+ FORSTER'S TERNS (including those on A1). Also on A1 was a male EURASIAN WIGEON and 9 REDHEADS (4 males and 5 females).

An adult PEREGRINE FALCON was perched on a power tower at the Baylands.

At dusk 2 BARN OWLS were foraging over the outer Palo Alto flood control basin.
