All,
A check of Stevens Creek between L'Avenida and Crittenden Lane in
Mountain View on the way into work this morning 8/31/06 turned up 1
female/immature SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRD, 1 WILLOW FLYCATCHER, 5+
"WESTERN" FLYCATCHERS (2 calling like PACIFIC-SLOPE), a small flock of
at least 5 CEDAR WAXWINGS (all adults), 1+ ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 12+
YELLOW WARBLERS, 2 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, and 2 WILSON'S WARBLERS.
Breeding confirmations included begging young CALIFORNIA TOWHEE, HOUSE
FINCH, and AMERICAN GOLDFINCH - a single juvenile DARK-EYED JUNCO was
apparently already independent. The GREAT EGRET nestlings along nearby
Shorebird Way were easily audible from the creek.
The pair of adult PEREGRINE FALCONS was perched on top of the wind
tunnel doors here at NASA Ames at lunch today.
