The Green Heron youngster was back at the Gate 5
pond at Monte Bello OSP today 8/31/2006. Also the Soras and one Wilson's Snipe.
Migrants included a Western Tanager, 2 Yellow Warblers (FOS here), 2 Blue-gray
Gnatcatchers, 1 Vaux's Swift, and 2 Violet-green Swallows (I missed Kathy
Parker's Lincoln's Sparrow yesterday, but there was a season-high 62 VGSW
yesterday, and a Black-headed Grosbeak.) An adult male No. Harrier was growing
in new outer tail feathers, giving it an exotic two-length
silhouette.
A Badger had visited overnight and dug some
impressive new holes by the outlet. Hope it doesn't burrow through the levee one
of these days!
