Seconding Andys sightings today, at State & Spreckles and the entrance to
the EECno Pectorals or Bairds. But several Lesser Yellowlegs, the Marbled
Godwit, 10 Semipalmated Plovers were the most interesting. I was there
roughly 2-3 pm, and while many peeps were feeding, many more were resting
and preening and hiding from birders' views. Poor timing.
A female Northern Harrier flew by. Also, 7 American White Pelicans flew
overhead-- big deep slow wingbeats in unison, big white wings and black
tips. For a moment I imagined I was in Florida (where I was in July for a
week)-- White Ibis! Wood Storks! I read once that birds with white feathers
have black feathers because they are stronger. The pelicans were kind of
majestic, actually.

On Tuesday, 8/29, I saw a single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER in the waterbird pond in
Alviso, near the EEC. I was looking from Spreckles St., where the road
rises up a bit just before you get to the business at the end of Spreckles.
Today, 8/30, there were no unusual sandpipers around but I did have a single
MARBLED GODWIT in the same pond.
I then walked around the butterfly garden near the nature center building
and found it to be very birdy. There were a few warbler groups moving
around. I had COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, YELLOW WARBLERS, a single WILSON'S
WARBLER, and a single WARBLING VIREO. There was also a BARN OWL camped out
in its box.
