Hi,
Yesterday, August 30, I went to the Sunnyvale WPCP and biked around the
radar tower pond. On the levy there was a tern that looked different
from the Forester's. I took some distant photos. I appologize for the
very poor quality.
The bird was the same size as the forester with a black beak similar to
the juveniles. The eye was distinctly larger, with a teardrop shaped
black region around it. The shoulders and back of head were a brownish
charcoal. I watched it walk delibrately over to a ring-bill and tug its
tail, which made me laugh out loud.

It was quite similar to a bird I saw on August 23 in the same place.
That bird seemed to have more brown than charcoal. It also had some
brownish coloring on the top of the head.

Any thoughts?
