I had my first backyard Gold Crowned Sparrow for this
year. I usually see a White Crown before the GC.
I've documented the arrival dates of these birds for
fifteen years now. Last year the first GC was seen on
the 19th, also. Previous years, I show dates of
between the 23rd and the 30th.
My first White Crown last year was seen on the 17th.
I'm keeping a sharp lookout, but haven't found one
yet.
So many House Sparrow this year! The Chickadees are
enjoying the sunflower seeds and the hummingbird
feeder. The quail think they own the backyard. Holes
from their dust bathing can be found in any piece of
ground, but their favorite seems to be in my garden
area. I have to fence off my small plants and still
they seem to wiggle their way in. The juvenile
Spotted Towhees have turned quite beautiful now.
Also, this is the first year I've had so many Juncos
on a daily basis.
