Hi Birders-
The Solitary Sandpiper was still on Guadalupe Cr today. Roy Carlson and I
spent about two hours in the sun covering all suitable habitat. We circled the
pond N of the water district bldg, walked along the W side of the creek, went
down to Almaden Lake Park, and then walked along the E bank. When we were about
to give up, Roy found the bird across the creek on the W side (where we had
previously looked) around 11:50 am. Roy left, but I went back to the other side
for an excellent view. To get there, on Almaden Expwy turn into the water
district/VTA parking first light N of Coleman on E side. Park in VTA area near
Bldg 5750, take the narrow paved path N of 5750 along S side of the pond. Path
hits a dirt access road that immediately ends on the W bank. The Solitary
Sandpiper was just ahead on exposed mud on the creek. Also there were Peggy Don,
Gordon and Jeannie Barrett, and Leonie Batkin. Nutmeg Mannikins were on the N
side of the pond.
Dave Weber,
Milpitas
