Sbbers,
The SOLITARY SANDPIPER was on the edge of the mudflat in the middle of the Guadalupe River behind the SCVWD pond this morning, 9/20/05. I was on the east side of the river viewing it when I saw three birders (Robin, Mary Ann, and ?) on the west side. I gestured to them and pointed out the SOSA. The mudflat is raised enough from the edges that they were not able to see it. Eventually it worked its way south and flew to the other side where all were able to get satisfying looks.
I walked south toward the bridge and encountered Janna Pauser who pointed out 3 COMMON MERGANSERs. Also in the area was a SPOTTED SANDPIPER and a BELTED KINGFISHER (male).
I went over to the water district side and saw another BEKI (female), 2 GREEN HERONs and a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON that was flushed from a tree by a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. YELLOW WARBLERs still abound as well as NUTMEG MANNIKENs.
On my way home I stopped by Almaden Quicksilver and saw my FOS WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWs by the New Almaden Trail. It was otherwise fairly quiet there except for a DOWNY WOODPECKER.
