On Sunday, 11 Sep 05, I visited Lake Cunningham and checked for migrants in
the riparian of the northern border. There was not much activity as I found
14 YELLOW WARBLERS, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, and a WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE.
Towards evening I went for a walk along the bike path that borders Coyote
Creek south of Metcalf. Nothing much on the walk, but on the way home I saw
CANADA GEESE flocking to a corn stubble field off the southeast corner of
Bailey and Santa Teresa. I stopped here and counted 761 of these geese,
finding a single CACKLING GOOSE (apparently Leucopareia) in with them. Most
surprising was a female MAGELLAN GOOSE. Though unlikely to have found its
way here from the southern tip of South America, it was an interesting bird
to see none the less.
