I birded from Coleman Road to frwy. 85 this afternoon along the Guadalupe River trail. I finally found Ann Verdi's WILLOW FLYCATCHER south of the SCVWD dam. It was flycatching from a Pepper tree, low and close to the trail for a good study. Three YELLOW WARBLERS were in the fennel in the same area and more heard in the Willows. An adult COOPERS HAWK flew north scattering birds on the water district property. North of Blossom Hill Rd. I found a beautiful pair of COMMON YELLOWTHROATS and heard several more once I was reminded of their call. Continuing north I found another WILLOW FLYCATCHER deep in the river channel flycatching between a Willow and a Silk Tree. There was a park bench along the trail here. Several YELLOW WARBLERS were found in this area and more seen past the freeway underpass for a total of eleven. Only Canada Geese were on pond north of the freeway. A GREAT BLUE HERON was perched in a pine tree on the east side of the pond, and a BELTED KINGFISHER flew up and down the river channel several times. On the way to the trail I pulled off Almaden Ex. near Lake Almaden to watch an adult GOLDEN EAGLE soaring overhead.
I believe my last backyard Hooded Oriole has finally migrated.
