Hi,
At 7:45 PM today, while walking about a mile out
on Adobe Creek Trail in Moutain View Shoreline,
I was surprised to see a dark IBIS fly across
Charleston Slough, across Adobe Creek, and
land in the bushy islands to the left of the
trail, across the creek from the large white sign
saying "Charleston Slough Restoration Project".
These are the islands where the large
flocks of terns and gulls roost/nest.
I was not able to see its facial coloration
well enough to confirm its identity.
Going by range, I assume it was White-faced.
It was nice to watch it flap and glide away
quickly. The dark coloration, long decurved bill,
and the flight pattern caught my attention
as I was just out on a casual evening walk.
I wouldn't be surprised if it hangs around
tomorrow morning.
