A friend saw this bird today.
Seen along Alameda Creek Trail from 20 feet without binoculars.
Bird 4 1/2 to 5 inches
Bright, clear red-orange, body, breast and maybe the back.
Black mini-mask through eyes and lores.
Lower belly/vent was black. Lower tail feathers were golden orange.
Sounds were soft sibilant, sucking whistle reminiscent of a Starling,
plus a soft chip, chip, chip. Something like a goldfinch chatter.
The black on the Orange Bishop is more extensive than that on this bird.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
