All,
For those hoping to see the Least Terns in Salt Pond A2E I should have
mentioned that the boardwalk is long distance viewing. Viewing attempts should be
made early in the morning to minimize air distortion and a good scope is a
must.
Unfortunately we also heard this morning that they intend to open up these
ponds to duck hunting. Because of locked gates we can't bird the dike between
Crittenden Marsh and Salt Pond A2E but they feel that it's OK for people
with guns to access the ponds to shoot the ducks. Who knows what will happen to
the only reliable place in Santa Clara County where Least Terns can be found
during post breeding dispersal.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
