All,
At 10:30 this morning Frank Vanslager and I had excellent views of an adult
male PURPLE MARTIN soaring low overhead as we walked down the road that leads
to Mt Umunhum. The bird was in view for several minutes as it first gained
height and then went out of sight over a ridge in the direction of the radar
tower. This area and the trail to Mt Baldy were fairly birdy yielding the
usual goodies including a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER that was carrying food
and was doing a fairly loud, call that we were not familiar with. I should
also note that, in the morning, we came up Hicks Rd from Camden Ave to Mt
Umunhum Rd but as we tried to return by the same route we found that a big tree had
fallen across the road blocking access [access is temporarily via Almaden Rd
only].
Take care,
Bob Reiling
