[SBB] Ringed Turtle Dove

All,

Clearly an escaped bird, I know, but still something I hadn't seen in Palo Alto before. I was parking my car near the corner of Everett Ave and Kipling Street yesterday when a very pale, blunt-tailed Dove landed on the power wires across the street. Unfortunately, I did not have my binoculars with me so I could not verify the bird's identity, but size and shape seemed right for Ringed Turtle Dove. It was larger than a Mourning Dove and paler than Eurasian Collared Dove. There was no black on the tail that I could see, but a small black mark was visible on the neck. I managed to get looks from the side and below as I approached the bird. It struck me as almost white, but when I saw it spread its tail, large pure white areas showed on the outer corners and I realized the bird was infact pale sandy color, not white. It vocalized a couple of times and the sound was quite hoarse but otherwise much like Mourning Dove. I wonder if someone has a back yard aviary in that neighborhood!
because I know it is a popular cage bird. I still keep hoping for a local White-wing...
