The Coopers Hawk at Parkview Park 1 in south San Jose (between Sposito
Cir and Grandpark Cir) has taken to attacking large dogs. My Golden
Retriever was attacked several times Friday night at dusk and just now
at 10:30AM Sunday. Late Friday an Irish Wolfhound was also attacked.
The bird hasn't done any damage so far but it is persistent until you
get the dog far away from its nest. And as its nest is above the
kiddie playground I think parents are getting nervous. However I've
only seen it attack dogs.
Would this indicate its chicks are about to leave their nest?
This is the same Coopers Hawk and nest that I reported some weeks ago.
On the plus side it's now very visible for photographs, both pirched
and in flight.
kind regards,
Ken Schmahl
