Hello SBBers,
Janet and I took a walk in Alum Rock Park this morning.
Mostly the usual cast of characters, but I thought the following were of some interest.
At the trail head at the entrance kiosk, the big hill on the north-side of the trail had a couple of Rufous-crowned Sparrows.
Raptors were of most interest. A kettle of 9 Red-tailed Hawks were over the north ridge. We saw more Red-tails throughout our walk and my gut feeling was that there were more than just the 9 we had seen in the kettle. It seemed like a higher than usual number all circling at once at this location.
One seen and one heard Red-shouldered Hawks. Seems like a young Red-tailed Hawk may have lit in an oak too close for their liking.
An unidentified large falcon flew past the kettle of Red-tails at a high altitude, heading east.
The usual 7-10 Turkey Vultures and a White-tailed Kite were also seen overhead.
