All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I walked out the railroad tracks located on
the southwestern edge of New Chicago Marsh from the Environmental Education
Center entrance road to where the tracks merge with those tracks headed into
Alviso. On the way out we had three SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS in the ponds
southwest of the tracks and a few "peeps," mostly LEAST SANDPIPERS, on both
sides of the tracks. The last ponds on the south side of the tracks were fairly
active with hundreds of "peeps," 18 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, one LESSER YELLOWLEGS
and one male RED-NECKED PHALAROPE. We also had lots of FORSTER'S TERN
activity in this area with young in various stages of development.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
