The bird I saw was definitely a tan-striped individual, and included
the faint dark malar that divided the white throat near the outer
edges. The head stripes were dark brown and buff, but more contrasty
than an imm. White-crowned Sparrow, and very striking bird -- perhaps
a bit more dramatic than other tan-stripes I have seen.
