I birded for two hours late this morning in Quicksilver Park from the McAbee entrance. I found a mixed flock of birds bathing in the shallow creek near the gate and bridge to Mine Hill Rd. Six Ruby crowned Kinglets, 2 Chestnut Backed Chickadees, 2 Townsends Warblers, and an ORANGE CROWNED WARBLER we viewed from above. Every few seconds a Chickadee would give an alarm call and they'd all scatter, then return moments later. This amusing scene continued until I decided I'd better get going. Before I got to the New Almaden trail a GOLDEN EAGLE flew to the ridge and joined a calling Red tailed Hawk. The hawk harassed the eagle and they flew off in opposite directions. A few minutes later I spotted two WHITE THROATED SWIFTS overhead.
I found several Hermit Thrush, Wrentit pairs, Hairy Woodpecker and two Fox Sparrows along the Guadalupe trail. At the junction of the Senador trail a Sharp shinned Hawk was high overhead, two White tailed kites perched in treetops. More Hermit Thrush, Red shouldered Hawk, Raven, Wrentits and finally a Coopers Hawk seen flying into the woods.
