Hello SBBers,
On 2 August at about 8:30 am, two GREEN HERONS were passing over the intersection of Church Avenue and De Paul Circle in San Martin. They were flying low, gaining altitude and appeared to have taken off from a local ranchette.
A few minutes later while we were driving through San Martin, we noticed two WHITE-TAILED KITES that landed in the top of some tall trees in the vicinity of the intersection of Church Avenue and New Avenue.
In addition to these not so common sightings, it must have been a good year for the "cup and ledge nesters" because that evening, four ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS, which appeared to be a pair and two fledglings, were sitting side by side on a garden fence at the intersection of Church Avenue and De Paul Circle, waiting their turn to used the Hummingbird feeder. A good crop of BARN SWALLOWS (at least 8) were foraging together there as well. And numerous young YELLOW-BILLED MAGPIES, SCRUB JAYS, LESSER GOLDFINCHES, HOUSE FINCHES and three young CALIFORNIA TOWHEES were frequenting the table feeder.
