[SBB] Stevens Creek Mouth (Red Knot)

Folks:

I cycled out to the Stevens Creek mouth on a falling tide today, 8/2/2005, as did Peggy and Bill Don. Before there was good exposure of mud flats, I was surprised to see six LEAST TERNS flying well off the mouth directly northwest (groups of 5 and 1). Amongst the early arrivals was a single RED KNOT, mostly basic, with a hint of salmon on its lower breast. It did not stay more than a few minutes, when it flew north, possibly with a second bird that I had missed on the mud flats. Although we watched the uncovering for another half hour, by a little after four, there were no more knots and I left. I didn't watch the northwest island in Salt Pond B1 closely, but saw one BLACK SKIMMER testing the waters at the Stevens Creek mouth. Yesteday, 8/1/2005, I counted five BLACK SKIMMERS on the island. Today, B1 had at least 28 BROWN PELICANS, mostly immatures.
