All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I checked out the west side of Llagas Creek
north of Bloomfield Rd. In the first "marshy Water-Treatment Pond" we had
an adult male BLUE-WINGED TEAL. Mark Paxton arrived shortly thereafter and we
were able to share the sighting with him before he had to rush off to work.
The number and variety birds seen was down from our last trip. Notables
included several WESTERN SANDPIPERS (with a few LEAST mixed in) and
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS (those in the ponds included one in full breeding plumage bird
while a flock of six breeding plumaged birds flew overhead without landing). The
most strangest thing was watching two fairly large flocks of Gulls flying
overhead at the same height but on slightly different paths collide. It was a
lot like watching a massive car crash in slow motion with no sound.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
