[SBB] Alum Rock Park & Overfelt Gardens

Hi All!
Today at Alum Rock park a noisy, bespectacled CASSIN'S VIREO was working
the trees along the creek across from the playground area. It was almost as
curious about me as I was about it, and provided long clear looks.
The GREAT HORNED OWL was still out on it's ledge at the very end of the
parking lot, and a first year male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE was in the first picnic
area. There was also a small not-so-cooperative flycatcher--olive-ish grey on
top, and white/beige on the underparts near the brand new bridge across the
creek. It had a complete eye-ring, two bright white wing bars, more white
edges on wing feathers, and a notched tail. It sat and called with a steady,
clear "whet, whet, whet" for few minutes before moving on. (I'm at a loss for
the ID of this bird.)
There were plenty of bright YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS around, both
Audubon's and Myrtle, and a few GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS as well.
A SPOTTED SANDPIPER at Overfelt Gardens put on a funny show as it tried
to forage around the edge of the biggest pond. It kept finding itself near
sunbathing turtles. It would try to intimidate the turtle with it's
bobbing--looking for all the world like it was wondering what to do next--and
eventually skirted around the turtle back to the ponds edge where it would come upon
another turtle sunbathing. What a riot!
                                                                Take care,
