[SBB] Vasona Birding

Good afternoon SBBs......
 
Went to Vasona twice today.....around 9AM I was out there with Sharon  Miyako 
from SFBBO to plan the Salute to GBHEs on April 24 from 10-2 at  
Vasona....while there the colony was jumping....lots of twigs being brought into  Nests 10 
and 11... Here's how the chick count is going
Nest 1 - 4 chicks    Nest 2 - 3 Chicks   Nest  4 - 2 (most likely 3) Nest 7 
incubating Nest 9 - 2 Chicks   Nest  10  incubating   Nest 11 can't get a count 
Nest 12 2 Chicks  (likely 3).... I am hoping we pass our count of 19 chicks 
in 2001....So far were  at 14 and still counting....  Total chicks born to this 
colony not counting  this year is 60....
 
When I went back this afternoon to see if I could take a better count,  which 
I couldn't I got to watch feeding by the females and lots of action by the  
chicks.
 
First Avocet seen at Vasona in my 5+ years of birding there....but the  water 
levels are going down due to photos that will be taken on Monday.   Also, a 
Cackling Goose following a Canada Goose....very cool... Lots of  Bullock's 
Orioles and Killdeer today....
