[SBB] Del Puerto Cyn 5-2-05

Since this includes some of SCL Co, I am posting to both CVBirds and South Bay Birds, since many SBBers come up and over Mt Hamilton or Mines Road to Del Puerto Cyn on day trips.

This morning David Webster and I did some birdig along Del Puerto Canyon. We didn't see anything unusal, but were glad to see many of the returning species expected along Del Puerto Road.

Western Kingbirds, Ash-throated Flycatchers, two male Costa's Hummingbirds, Grasshopper Sparrow, Canyon Wrens, & Violet-green Swallows were my first of season.

Also present were Bullock's Orioles, Rock Wrens, Belted Kingfisher, Loggerhead Shrike, & Say's Phoebe.

At the Junction (SCL Co) were Wild Turkeys and a about 1 mile up San Antonio Valley Road were Lewis's Woodpeckers.

Upon returning to Escalon (SJ Co), I was surprised when Dave told me he still had his one and only of the winter, Pine Siskin at his thistle feeder. Sure enough, it was still there with some American Goldfinch.

That's it.
