[SBB] Smiths Creek

Folks:

This morning, 4/1/2005, I visited Smiths Creek at Hwy 130, walking a bit along the creek and then up to the ridges to the west of the CDF station, then back by Twin Gates along the road. The black oaks are leafing out well, but other deciduous oaks are lagging. Few summer residents back, although it was nice to see and hear BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS again.

Cattle and rains have left many trails mired--if you wish to walk the creek trail to the ford bring boots. No parking signs have been installed at the corner lot where many folks park (near the phone). It curious that county parks would allow no parking signs at a park trailhead, but I guess I'm just being naive. Across the road looks legal still, or across the bridge.
