All,
Notables this morning as Frank Vanslager and I birded upper Sierra Rd.
included several HORNED LARKS, WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, a ROCK WREN, an adult GOLDEN
EAGLE (hunting the hillside south of the road), a singing adult male BULLOCK'S
ORIOLE, and one (possibly two) RUFOUS-CROWNED SPARROW. On Felter Rd we had
a WESTERN KINGBIRD and lots of singing Bullock's Orioles in the Eucalyptus
trees. A brief stop at New Chicago Marsh proved disappointing while Arzino
Ranch was fairly active with a few Dowitchers (SHORT-BILLED being the only
species identified), CANADA GEESE, BLACK-NECKED STILTS, AMERICAN AVOCETS, a
WILLET, two Gulls (one an adult CALIFORNIA, I guess this means that the Mew Gulls
have left the area), and a couple BURROWING OWLS.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
