Re: [SBB] New to the List

Clint:
I've had best luck with raptors in winter. I've seen prairie falcons, white-tailed kites, Cooper's hawks, red-tailed hawks and a golden eagle on the treetops and lamp posts at Shoreline Park:

Several northern harriers hunt over the Baylands and Shoreline. They always seem to stay far away when I'm out with the three-legged monster:

Don't get too close to the business end of any of these guys though:

I found this list pretty much by accident, and am pleased to see several posts on the first daily digest. My home is in Palo Alto, not far from the city dump, and in the habit of several strolls weekly. Today's bike ride along the Bay Trail from Embarcadero to Moffett and back, I was again searching looking for a way to cycle all the way to Alviso, but it doesn't seem possible.

In the past week, many ducks, pelicans, and shorebirds seem to have left the area, so spring must finally be here. I've recently joined the Audubon society, and look forward to finding the right group to join for the birdathon. Any suggestions? I'm pretty up to date on waterfowl, but would love to find more raptors.

Its good to have a local connection, and I look forward to this discussion list.

Peace, Clint
