I've had best luck with raptors in winter. I've seen prairie falcons, 
white-tailed kites, Cooper's hawks, red-tailed hawks and a golden eagle on 
the treetops and lamp posts at Shoreline Park:

seem to stay far away when I'm out with the three-legged monster:
