Pictures of a juvenile male RUFF (or two), one taken on the southeast side
of the road shortly after 8, the second (with two LESSER YELLOWLEGS) on the
northwest side, better for morning photography, around 10, at which point
Ron Wolf had located it there. Ron has posted his excellent pictures; you
can see that we shared a bit of extra luck when the Yellowlegs posed
together with the Ruff.
I saw what I thought was a second RUFF on the southeast side at 8, and I
also thought I saw a second Ruff still on that side at 10. Looking at the
two pictures I've posted, taken two hours apart, my best guess is that they
show the same bird, but I'm not sure (opinions welcome.) If no one else
reports seeing two Ruffs around the EEC entry road, I'll have to suspect I
just saw the same bird at different places at 8, and was mistaken when I
thought I saw one on the southeast side at 10.
Anyway pictures of "at least one Ruff" are now up at
http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/latest .
OT, some pics I took on yesterday's Shearwater pelagic on Monterey Bay are
up at http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/montereypelagic_sept07 .
