This morning 9/20/07 after viewing the Parasitic
Jaeger (thanks to all who helped us see it!), Roland and I headed to Sunnyvale
Baylands Park to get a better look at a spizella sparrow I had seen there
yesterday. We found the sparrow in almost the same spot where it was seen
yesterday - in the tall grass northwest of the Discovery Play Area where
two dirt paths intersect. Today's calm weather made it easier to carefully
see the field marks so that we could confirm it was a young CHIPPING
SPARROW. The very dark eye-line went through the eye to the
lores. It had a gray rump and a streaky gray nape.
Take care.
