In addition to the two posts today regarding New Chicago Marsh, around 8:30 today the two black skimmer chicks were both practicing skimming by making brief forays away from their parents, who remained on the first island in salt pond A16. Both parents were calling, perhaps to encourage the chicks to fly.
On the way in the entrance road one pectoral sandpiper posed perfectly on the north side of the road, and on the way out perhaps the last remaining red-necked phalarope was scratching itself with one foot while in the water on the south side of the road.
