Hi all, The SCVAS trip to Monte Bello yesterday took place under
very warm conditions. It was not as birdy as it could have been but we
had some great looks at some great birds. From the Bella Vista trail,
looking down at the top of the oak canopy, we had a male BLACK-THROATED GREY
WARBLER pop up on top in the full sun and start singing. LAZULI BUNTINGS
were numerous. Out best birds of the day were sparrows though. On
the Indian Creek trail, we had a BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW up and singing within
range for scope-filling looks. Despite this being a life bird for roughly
half the group, it ended up entertaining us for so long that we had to walk
away from it. Later on, close to the parking lot, we had a buzzing
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW as well. Best Regards, Kirsten R. Holmquist |
