Here are some more of the gory details: All,
With great initiative, Dean Manley has acquired a day use permit (good for
a year in this case) that allows him to park behind the barricade but he is
concerned that it will have no value if they install a gate at this
location. Initially they indicated that day use permits would be easily
available however, it eventually it took Dean several days and some effort
to get the permit. No idea if permits will be available in the
future. This all seems very typical; they (this type of organization)
acquire land and then they are afraid that the "wrong" people might make use of
the area so no parking signs are posted, fences and gates are
erected. Apparently, when we vote for or provide funds for land
purchases it's only intended for use by local private property owners
and those working with the acquiring organization(s). I'm sure that
the stated intent is to ultimately make the space available to the public
(providing that they can get adequate facilities, manpower
and funding). Of course some minimal use fee would then have to be
levied to be able to maintain these new facilities. Hopefully everyone
will go out and apply for a day use permit for the Loma Prieta as I
foresee more barriers at other pullouts on Loma Pieta
Rd..
Take care,
