On Sunday morning 5/27/07 in Alviso, after seeing the YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDs at the corner or North 1st and Nortech Pkwy (as already reported by Bill Bousman), I had two BURROWING OWLs on the south-east corner of the golf course fence opposite the school.
A full-frame closeup of one of them is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/30419272@N00/
While processing the picture I noticed the significant difference in the size of the pupils of the bird.
Its left side (right side of the picture) was a bit in the shade given the angle of the bird, while the right side was in direct sunlight.
But if that differential in light causes this much of a difference in the pupil size of the two eyes, its pretty amazing.
Later at EEC, the BARN OWL was not in the box, but in the branches of the tree. Then it was attacked by an AMERICAN CROW that continued to harass the Owl even until they were out of binocular range (flying south).
In the EEC parking lot, photographed mating BARN SWALLOWS. I got a pic showing the exposed cloacal opening of the female and the male's protruding reproductive organ. Its not a very sharp pic, so I did not upload it, but I can mail it to anyone interested. A brief search on the web did not reveal any similar pics, so it may be of interest.
